Feel free to take that chance. I do not think it worth what could be lost. A boat, a job or security clearance.

They would call you a double agent! Most military types I have spoken to about Cuba are scared of losing their benefits as well.

For the rest of us, Cuba is much better than the Bahamas. Jungles, rainforest, mountains, waterfalls, tobacco fields, and a southern coastline that is virtually unspoiled and unchanged from 100 years ago. Also, no Bahamas prices, Bahamas crime, and Bahamas attitudes!

I have been interested in dock space in Havanna , there was talk 10yrs ago about some of the country being opened up. The days of Castro are numbered. I'm sure Fiedel is dead & his brother just won't let the cat out of the bag . The country has crumbled to a literally a shit hole. All the Gangster pomp that was built has decayed . I was on the net & a photographer had posted a ton of pics that showed the streets & the real Cuba. Most of it looked like an enormous Ghetto, The pics told me the real truth.

I think it would be a great cruising destination..... It's in range of ft. Myers , I may look more into this.

Seems like a lot of paranoia around Cuba here.... We just moved back to the US after almost 20 years living as expatriates in Mexico, the community of Americans living around lake Chapala numbers in the tens of thousands and it was (is) hard to find someone there who hasn't visited Cuba. The vast majority fly but I do know of a few who travelled by boat (but not their own). They don't stamp US passports but I am sure somewhere in Washington there is a list of thousands of Americans who have vacationed there that we can access in the future by applying for a 'freedom of information' document. The only problems we heard about are too many European and Canadian tourists have made the claims of 'pristine' a little overblown.

Hopefully we'll see Cuba opened up to boating and yachting soon, seems a shame to have such a wonderful resource so close and 'off limits' to just Americans.

Tobacco fields, rainforest, jungles can be enjoyed without a boat. With a boat, you can't beat the Bahamas... All of the norther shore of cuba is rougha HD expose with minimum anchorage and the south side is a long way around.

What Bahamas crime are you talking about? Nassau? Freeport? That s not the Bahamas... Attitude? No issue in the small island either. Prices? $2 a foot dockage isn't bad.... Hundreds of miles of cays, sheltered water, etc.... Can't be beaten.

All without having to clear in and out of EACH port and have to ask permission to visit anchorages.

The north coast of Cuba has abundant natural harbors stretching from Mariel to Matanzas and Veradero. While the Cuban government is letting Marina Hemingway in Havana slide into disrepair they are slowly building a 500+ slip mega marina on the bay side of Varadero. I have not even mentioned Cayo Coco and the 300 mile archipelago of uninhabited cays between Varadero and Holguin on the north coast that have been largely untouched by development for 100 years.

All without having to clear in and out of EACH port and have to ask permission to visit anchorages.

Cuba has the potential to be a boater's paradise. As I said the south coast is pretty much inaccessible to anyone other than rag boaters and the adventurous due to the lack of marinas and diesel. The south coast of Cuba is one of the world's ecological wonders and can easily be visited by driving a few hours from Havana.

I guess it depends on what you are looking for... Personally a 500+ mega marina has zero appeal to me or to many if not most of the people we ve had aboard. Anchoring out, exploring new remote beaches or cays, is what they all enjoy with the occasional stop at a small place, not an Atlantis type facility.

From what I ve seen about the Cayo Coco area, I m not sure it is deep and varied enough for some serious cruising, as we do in the exumas.

Right now it s blowing 25kts here in the Exumas and we have dozens of anchorages within 3 hours run time on the bank without having to go outside in the sound, just a light chop.

Nothing comes close, certainly not cuba, again, except for the south coast but which is a long way from the US

Now as a landlocked tourist staying in hotels and renting a car, I m sure cuba is great as long as you don't mind supporting the regime Swiss bank accounts

What I would love to see in the future would be some smaller Compass Cay or Staniel Cay type marinas dot the north and south coasts of Cuba.

When the island eventually opens to American tourism you will undoubtedly have clients request you take them to Cuba.

The trip to Havana from the Keys is about as exciting as it gets. First you see the mountains, then the skyline, and before long you get close enough to Havana to see the 1950s era cars driving down the Malecon. It really is surreal, everybody I have brought with with on this trip loved it.

I think I'll wait until relations between the USA and Cuba thaw out. I've had chances to go there on various medical trips, and always passed. One of our forum members has been there not too long ago, but his wife is a diplomat and she can travel to places like Cuba without any difficulty. I don't think that for the ordinary American citizen like myself the bang is worth the risk of going there. I'd rather wait til it's legal. Which may or may not happen in my lifetime.

It's amazing and funny how these threads start on one topic and end up somewhere else, if where not careful someone on this thread is going to post their Old Aunt Martha's Meat Loaf Recipe. I hear Cuba is Nice this time of year. LOL. Now that we've established that,,,, did anyone see the Model on dislplay of the GT 70 at the boat show and was there any more information available, not only on the boat but on Hatteras' plans for the future? Thanks.

"We're" not where in above mentioned thread.... Sorry typing to fast I guess. I'm sure I do that more often than not. Was never an English Major. Anyway any new info would be great. Thanks

First the thread goes off topic. Now you're talking to yourself. What next? :)

Thanks for the links. I like that configuration page.

"Now you're talking to yourself" Yep, I'm Married with Children so I've become very good at "Talking to Myself". I'm glad you liked the link, maybe someone else will find it useful, As far as going off topic, we maybe able to cure World Hunger or so called Global Warming here if we let it go far enough. If not I'm sure our Transparent, and Trustworthy President will find a way to make it worse while spending a Trillion Dollars. Anyway, as far as the GT70 I cant wait to see the finished product and if there will be an alternative Interior Layouts. I was hoping to see more of an Aft Deck like the 1997 to 2004 70C or the 82C to 90C but other than that the Lines of the Boat look Good and Sleek.
