It seems that there is a coolant drought in FL. I called several Detroit Diesel outfit in FL and there is a limited amount of coolant available… What do you all use for alternative coolant for the V71 engines for example? This is my first time flushing the system completely.. need about 16 gallons and 4 gallons backup.Thank youStreff

Any HD diesel rated coolant should be fine. Just do not mix NOAT and OAT formulations. Zerex Heavy Duty Diesel seems to be easiest to find. Try a Napa store.

You can use whatever coolant you want in 71's - it's the wet liner engines (53's, 92's) that are super sensitive to coolant specs. That said I use the official DD stuff in mine anyway, because the cost difference is minimal so why not.

Thank you all for the advice. NAPA has their own 1gallon for $20.00/gallons. Only a few on hand, none at the warehouse. I found a DD dealer, 55miles away.. he is selling the gallon for $10 per. He only has 10 gallons but can get more in a few days. I guess a road trip is in order. Thanks again,Streff

This is what my Detroit mechanic recommended and it works great. Pre-charged. I ordered it through NAPA auto parts.

Distilled water with a corrosion inhibitor here in Central FL. Much cheaper than anti-freeze/coolant that I don't need. You can get the corrosion inhibitor at NAPA

After 2 weeks of waiting, the DD dealer received a shipment of Coolant selling at $10.00/gallon. NAPA still don’t have enough gallons for the 2 engines but they also sold at $20/gallon. Both types are 50/50 pre-charged. I appreciate the idea of using distilled water and corrosion inhibitors, reminds me of what I used in motorhomes 20 years ago. I will keep that in mind for sure.Streff
