The quality is there whether it looks pretty or not. Like the motorcycle guys say "chrome don't get you home". These kind of boats only make sense for knowledgable DIY people. If your $ are limited they need to go into mechanicals and safety equiptment. Then again if it's Thurston Howell the third and sit on the back deck in his yacht club blazer dipping his wieners in grey poupon while impressing his dock neighbors he shouldn't be looking at sport fish in the first place!

Good openion

Damn, Tim, you sue hate us yacht club types. LOL

And here I thought this was a family oriented forum.......:p

For those that appreciate the finer things in life, specifically on a boat..... Google "hotties on boats" a thread on the Cruising Outpost forum (Bob Bitchin's gig formerly known as "Attitudes and Latitudes") which with a half a million views is arguably the most popular boating forum thread on earth.

WARNING: NOT WORK SAFE!

The 50 to 60footer are going for same or less price than the 36-45 footers.

I'd be all over a 52, but the fuel burn, size, and beam is just too big for me. Too much to single hand as well.

No free looks? Okay, I'll give you two quarters next time I see you. One for the starboard and one for the port.

I at one time thought the same but after having both 45 and 52 for about 3 years i have to disagree with handling by your self and fuel burn depends on how fast you want to get there. Fourty Five verses 52 sea keeping is the big thing and as for fuel burn about 46 to 50 per hour at cruse verses 35 to 40 for the 45. Of course speed is the factor.

It's not how many GPH it's the distance your traveling per unit of fuel used. For the most part if you really look at the hard #'s most of these heavy built boats burn about the same. I look at the #'s on these "modern" repowers and it's not all that much better than the old detroits. Anybody that understands chemistry and physics knows there is only so much work you can get out of a gallon of oil. But then again I have a bottle of snake oil I'm selling that will cut your fuel consumption in half and double your speed.........

How big and heavy matters. It all comes down to nmpg. My 50C numbers are so close at most cruising speeds it is a matter of sea conditions and how fast you want to get there.

I tried but I can't push 40 gph through my engines.

I always loved the series 1 41 and 45. They are so different though when you run. The 41 is efficient for its day. Surprisingly abe to do 17 kts at 23 gph. 20 and maybe a half wot.

One of my factors was fuel burn and another maintenance. A 52 is a big boat and I'd be working on it all the time. I'd have no time to use it. I'd have problems with depth at the house and some of the local channels. Also I have friends with bigger boats and I can always play on theirs.

I think my cost of maintaining a 41 is about half of what a 52 would be. Maybe less.

When I first got my boat I was running her at 17kts when I was going for distance and economy. I've since discovered that 19kts yields the same NMPG. For my boat that's the sweet spot for economy and nets me around .33 NMPG. I like the way she runs in the 21-22kt range but the economy drops down to .25 NMPG. GPH are only relevant when we're just out for a ride with no destination.
