  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
53' MOTOR YACHT (1969 - 1988)
You all may hate West Marine but they have really!!! Lowered prices. I just bought 16 feet of 1/2 inch fuel hose at Marine Exchange in San Diego on my wholesale account. $4.69 per foot, needed 13 feet more so took my invoice to West to see if they would price match like they are advertising. Same hose on my Port Supply account was $ 2.71 per foot, there list price was $ 7.69 per foot. Hose clamps at Marine Ex. $2.06 each, West $.88 as bad as they might be they are really trying to get the Port Supply business back at least. John

They want to get rid of all of your other options.

Once they do you'll pay through the wazoo

That is absolutely true. Look what they did once they owned BoatUS- closed all the BoatUS stores, or renamed them, and jacked the prices up.

What WM wants is a monopoly, after which they will squeeze everyone as hard as they can. Spend your money elsewhere, especially with locally owned stores.

The original post says it all. Just look at the list prices. That is what most people pay. And its a compete rip off.

I agree with all of your comments, that is why I usually shop at Marine Exchange which is a fantastic local company that really caters to the boat professional guys and actually stocks the things you need to maintain boats like ours. John

Our local companies are priced higher than West Marine. When I was near New Orleans this wasn't so but now that I have moved further South WM prices aren't quite as bad. I paid $44 for 105 resin online with free shipping and no tax. WM is about the same in store but with tax and have to drive to store. Local place is 46 plus 11% tax so over 50. Thats fine but its not reliably there so I take with me what I need

11% tax?

Where are you? Connecticut or California?

That's nuts.

By the way online sales are still taxable and one day you may be asked if you paid it. There's no free lunch. Someone , somewhere sometime will have to pay.

I’ve bashed Worst Marine before, so I’ll give credit this time. Needed some new ground tackle parts for the new chain. None on the shelf at my local independent, so they ordered for arrival today. But, try as we might, we could not find a Gr 30 1/2” eye style grab hook in any of their supplier catalogs. Stopped at Worst on my way home, they had one on the shelf, $29, about 5 bucks over the online price. BTW, a shout out to 1st Chain Supply, ordered one day, shipped the next day, arrived the day after - free shipping. But avoid their accessories...they’re double everybody else’s price, with nosebleed shipping charges.

California has 8.5 to 9,5.

Louisiana. With Parish and Local taxes its 10-11% depending if you are in the city or not. We dont have a state property tax but even at these rates and high oil prices our state is still broke. Our political system in the state has been corrupt since its inception

true dat

Sounds like a reverse Robin Hood tax system, rob from the poor and give to the rich. BTW, I was born in New Orleans many years ago, so I feel free to comment.

They rob from everyone and give to themselves. Where I live up north we have 3 state funded universities the furtherest two being 30 miles apart. Each has its own ball stadiums, administration buildings, campus buildings, auditoriums, etc. Many have duplicate courses. Its been that way for decades yet no one wants to address it. This doesn't count the various state funded vo tech campuses in every town of any size. Waste like this along with massive corruption have kept our state in the red for all of my 52 years.

Back to the OP, it appears pigs CAN fly.

I usually shop at WM but buy down the street at Boat Owners Warehouse because they are always cheaper.

Yesterday I Needed a new EPIRB and found a good one at WM for $360. Went down the street to BOW and the same unit was $430.

Salesman shrugged and said he can't match that price. I was shocked.

I bought one of those dock boarding handles that fit in a rod holder for wife. It was cheaper at WM than anywhere I could find online. Plus I had $20 in "rewards" for overspending so I got it for that much less
