Hatteras Model
43' DOUBLE CABIN (1970 - 1984)
OK.... So it wasn't ANYWHERE near what Texas or those states get... BUT...
We've been hit by the storms from the tropical storm today... Lots of winds (up to 44mph, and just over 1" of rain.
The admiral had just gotten home from work when everything changed.... We suddenly had a massive increase of wind and when I went up on the aft deck, watched the wind go from East to South to West to North in a few seconds...
EVERYTHING on the aft deck was thrown around and the isinglass was all blown in as the snaps couldn't hold it....
Cheryl came running up and we both could see the small tornado (or waterspout as we ARE on the water) pass over us and bounce up and down as it headed towards Cumberland Island.. LUCKILY for us...it was on the 'upward' bounce when it got to us......

Glad it wasn't worse. We had 60MPH gusts and some minor flooding.
In 2005 we were headed south and a Hurricane was threatening. We were at SarasotaYC and we were going to go on to Venice YC, but they told us no. We opted to run back home since my friends engines were running warm and I told him I would clean his exchangers while we waited for the storm to pass.
Linda said lets just stay on the boat rather than going into the house. About 6 AM I got rolled out of the bed tied to my dock. A small twister came across the neighborhood and there was a roof in the street in front of my house!!

glad you're OK we didn't get hit that bad good thing nobody was hurt

All coming through eastern NC now. Had tornado warnings for New Bern area after one touched down over by Jacksonville, we actually got our little utility room ready with water etc at 5:30am, nothing happened. Next band of wind moving in now to peak around noon, so went over to Morehead and put more lines on the boat, stashed cushions, etc. Supposed to blow 40-50 there about noon. One of those days I'm glad we don't live on the boat full time anymore. The MC Yacht Basin has a great crew to look after things (bunch of ex CG guys for the most part), and they are staffed up since it is Big Rock week starting.

I was thinking about our FL HOF members when I was watching the news this a.m. I'm glad that everybody is safe. Hopefully we all stay that way as this thing moves up the coast.

Glad you're ok!

I nearly got rolled a number of years ago offshore when a wall cloud with a doppler-indicated (known because the marine radio WX alarm went off) embedded twister came at me and I had no way to either see or evade it. By the time I saw it blow up and come at me on the radar it was too wide to get around in the time available given Gigabite's maximum speed and as it was advancing on me at ~40kts I couldn't outrun it either.

The worst of it was that I couldn't see the damn thing as it was raining hard enough that I couldn't see beyond my anchor pulpit and the radar was completely blacked out even with rain/clutter at max.

It missed, obviously, but not by much -- I could hear it over the engines!

Glad you're ok Charlie and all are safe. We've been out of town last few days and was flying into Jacksonville last night about 10:30 pm and that was a real roller coaster ride for the last 20 miles before landing. I'm glad our boat is on the hard at Huckins.

Glad everyone is OK; our marina was hit by an F0 tornado on January 30 that took the roof off all our docks, tore away all biminis and removed deck furniture. Fortunately, no injuries, and except for a couple of boats, all the boat damage was minor. The docks were a mess, and now 4 months later we are still dealing with the clean-up, and reconstruction hasn't started due to insurance company insisting that the damage was caused by "wave action." Sheet metal in the trees; NWS confirmed twister; eye-witnesses testimony that it lasted no more than 15 seconds, and they say "wave damage." F%#$%*g insurance companies!

Which insurance company thinks tornadoes are "wave action"? Just curious. Maybe we should know about this.

I got a guess!

We got a large amount of rain between 2 am and 3:30 am, then the wind started blowing about 6:00 am up to 40-45 mph (gust). About 10:30 my wife said she has had enough and wanted to drive to town and get off the Bronco bull ride. We then went to West marine in Wilmington and spent some money and had lunch. Its now 4:30 pm and winds are in the 20's, so no more bucking. Hope everybody makes it through OK.
