The oil cooler to the trans in my 41tc leaked and as a result I have water contamination in the Allison Trans. I replaced the cooler and flushed the gear several times with fresh oil but can't seem to get all the water out.
The Detroit manual says to flush a contaminated engine with a 50% mix of oil and Dipropylene Glycol Methyl Ether (DPM). The Allison manual says that Glycol will attack the friction plates in the trans but doesn't say how to flush the trans, only that it needs to be done.
Does anyone know of a product that can be used? I really don't want to overhaul the gear. It seems to work O K but I know I have to get all the water out.
Thanks, Fred

I don’t know, but it seems to me that repeated flushing with oil should remove the water. Did you take the hoses into consideration when flushing? Water may be trapped in there.

I had the same thing happen to my 41 Hat with Twin Disc 506's. I remove the drain plug let it all run out in the bilge that I had plug off and pump that oil for disposal. Fill with new oil ran the engine for half hour at differant speeds drain the oil, did this process two more times. After I took the Ol girl out an run her for about hour and came back and drain the oil again, I let it set over night. Fill gears with oil and watch it closely. I did change again after 20 hrs. I also remove the hoses and clean them each time.
