Water Heater Pop-Off

Does anyone have a pop-off valve that is piped to an overboard discharge? Just curious. My 1979 43DC has the pop-off valve but no piping to discharge it overboard in the event of a pop-off. I'd hate to get that much scalding water in that compartment as well as the rest of the water running through the system.

My over temp valve exits overboard. I had one valve go bad and would leak. I was wondering why my water was only warm not hot. One day while standing on the dock I noticed some water coming out the side of the boat. That's how I found out about the discharge.

Had EXACTLY the same occurrence!

The relief valve on our 53's water heater is plumbed to the starboard sea chest.

Mine goes overboard as well. I keep hearing my water pump run occasionally and couldn't find the leak. Then I saw a little trickle out of the thru-hull for the sea chest in the stbd ER. Turns out it was the pop-off leaking. I replaced it and problem solved. No more running water pump at night to wake me up.

Mike and Sky - I'm going to add a drain line to mine and a new above water thru-hull. What material is your drain line made of? Thxs.

Mine is copper

Mine is copper too and leads to a dedicated thru-hull about midships on the port side.

I don't know why mine was not plumbed overboard - next project on my to do list.
