  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
53' MOTOR YACHT (1969 - 1988)
You guys that have Bosch dryers are yours ventless? I am looking to replace ours and all the Bosch dryers seem to be ventless and require a lot of air space around them which our boat installations do not have. A couple of others brands also are ventless. Need suggestions. Thanks John

We have a pair of bosh washer and dryer onnthe lazzara 84 I run. They are vented. Stay away from ventless dryers...

I have a Bosch ventless, truly horrible. If I can’t convert it to vented will be replacing unit.

We have a ventless Bosch unit that was on the boat when we purchased it almost 2 whole months ago.

It is seriously different than what I am used to. Clothes don't come out feeling baked the way that they did from our other dryers - as a matter of fact, they come out feeling as though they are not very dry. But if I give them a few minutes to cool down, I realize that most of them are actually dry.

(I should point out that we have recently lived in Arizona and Colorado where dry is REALLY dry!)

I was concerned at first that we would have to pitch the ventless dryer, but living with it now for almost two months I must say that it works well enough for me to take it off the list of things to replace.

Our Bosch dryer is the Ascenta model and has about 5/8" of space on both sides, about 10" above and behind it and is open to the passage in front.

One of the first things I had to do was clean the lint screen with vinegar. It was really loaded up with crud. The manual for the unit says not to use those anti-static nice smelling dryer sheets, but there were several of them left with the boat. I believe that they caused the lint screen to load up and probably really decreased the efficiency of the dryer.

Is it possible to channel vented air across the condensate plate to make these more efficient?

The Bosch are (were) available vented and ventless. I have the ventless and the condensate drain goes into the shower sump. I read many negative reviews online, and was reluctant to purchase. A scratch and dent unit came up for nothing, so I bought it. I've been very happy with it. The "but" is it takes longer to dry. If you use the programmed cycles, the clothes are slightly damp. I add a 20 minute timed cycled at the end, and even the towels are dry. Can't beat the quality. Mine even have a pull out folding table between washer and dryer.

Have been doing a lot of reasearch on washers and dryers. Apparently all the major brands except Asko in the 24 inch wide size are now ventless, probably due to lazy builders of apartments and condos not wanting to put in a vent system. We just ordered an Asko washer and dryer, big bucks but we were convinced that they are now the best quality available, made entirely in Sweden, not China, more expensive than Bosch and pretty close to Miele, but the dryer is vented so I am happy. Hi John:

Would you be willing to share the model numbers here? Will the unit(s) fit in the space where the frigidare model was?

Thanks!

DC

Asko W2084W washer and T208VW dryer. They are just under 24 inches wide and 33.5 inches tall don’t remember the depth. They will come down our forward hatch with the screen trim removed. John

Looks like Consumer Reports just did a review of compact washer/dryer sets.

https://www.consumerreports.org/compact-washers/best-matching-compact-washers-and-dryers/

You have to be a member, but you can do so for one month for $7.50.

I wasn't aware that most of the compact dryers are ventless now. I need to pull my dryer to replace the drum belt, I will have to check out the venting setup. Other than that, it is pretty new, but not one of these premium brands. However, I do notice that the washer vibrates more than our full size front loader at home.

I like front loaders at home, but what about the laundry centers, like what the boats came with? They are still available and are vented it seems. Are these compact front loaders better than the laundry centers?

Example of laundry center...

We recently replaced our OEM stacked unit with a Sears Kenmore . It was a direct replacement, in fact, the dryer was identical to the 30 year old unit we removed. We found it at “Hometown Sears”, one of several Sears varieties.

We bought two Bloomberg sets one for boat and the other for RV. The one in the RV gets used all the time (we live in rv while refitting Fair Well) vary good units. They are vented.

On mine, I cut the existing facial panel to accept the new units, and ordered a new sapele door from Barkerdoor.com. 6 week lead time on the door, and they do great work.

What style and finish did you use on the new door?

Barkerdoor.com will make anything you want. You pick the thickness of the rail and stile stock. 3/4, the panel insert style, Flat Panel. The edge detail, Roman ogree, and the material, sappele and finished or not. Their web site will take you through it.

How much was the door?

How much was the door?

I can't recall the exact amount, but for a custom made door, in an exotic wood, it was very reasonable.. 200 to 300 is my recollection. Their website will price it out for you.

Barkerdoor.com also made replacements for my electric panel doors. The originals were the tinted plastic found on later Hatteras models. I'm just not down with plastic. They really do good work.
