  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
41' CONVERTBLE-Series I (1964 - 1971)
Want to buy used isolation transformer that also does 2:1 step down (or 1:2 step up). Any size is fine, nothing huge needed...5-10kVA would be super.

All the ones Ive seen are delta- delta, Y-Y, Y-delta or delta-y hook ups. It all depends on the taps

I have seen them pop up on Craigslist all the time. If no one here has one try there. Good luck

FWW... I am on the prowl too.In the end may just pay the 2700 for the Charles... But the CA sales tax is a killer. May seek one out of state.

There is a 120V/50 on Craig's list in Benecia... Too small for my 53MY but others may be able to use it.

How big do you need?

Are you looking at an isolation. Or a buck boost transformer?

copy/paste: Want to buy used isolation transformer (ADD: Transformers are naturally isolation devices) that also does 2:1 step down (or 1:2 step up). Any size is fine, nothing huge needed...5-10kVA would be super.

As I told the students I taught....generator (ends) and transformers are rated in kVA

In the marine world we consider isolation as manual and buck boost as automatic. So there. By the way I wasn't typing to you.

My boost is manual.

I did a power system in a customers boat with an auto switch and a buck boost (automatic ) transformer from charles. It was a sweet design. The transformer is completely automatic. No user intervention required.

Bad link krush

You're absolutely correct BoatSB, have the Charles auto switch and Charles transformer with auto boost, both really great products. Got rid of of a lot of extra wire and switches and we never have to think about all of that nonsense anymore.

This may be the ticket! https://www.automationdirect.com/adc/Overview/Catalog/Power_Products_(Electrical)/Power_Transformers)

look at encapsolated transformers.....buck/boost in industry usually means going down to lower voltages like 24vac
FYI Jefferson is the OEM for most of the older Hatts. If I'm reading this right, I would need 2 Jefferson 416-1161-000 units at $167 each. Sounds awfully cheap. Curious how well they would hold up in a marine environment. Mine are in the cabin under the dinette so much less exposure than in the ER.

The industry term for buck/boost is often to get a low control voltage output, not what boaters tend to use. The transformer you are speaking of is:

240x120 VAC 60Hz buck-boost transformer, 1.5kVA, 1-phase, 240x120 VAC primary, 24x12 VAC secondary, NEMA 3R. Suitable for use as auto or isolation transformer.

That means capacity is 1.5kVA (not a lot) and it designed to take 240 or 120VAC in and put out 24 or 12 VAC out. One could hook 24 or 12 VAC to it (backwarsd) and get 120/240VAC out of it too--though that may not be "approved".

My wife's cousin in Puerto Rico is Manuel.

Funny, that's how I switch it. I have a little Puerto Rican in the Gen room that monitors the voltage and flips the switch with needed.

Still looking for used isolation (step up/down) transformer.
