Wanted to hear some feedback on the reasons for a vented loop on the raw water intake on the generator.

Not that I have seen near as many boats as many on this list, but that's a new one to me. In fact I can't recall seeing them or any sort of anti-siphoning on an intake of any kind and don't understand what the need would be. Sure you don't mean discharge side?

No this is on the intake side , just cant come up with a purpose.

Hmm...since vented loops rely on water pressure in the loop to keep the vent closed, I would think that genny's RW pump would pull the vent "open" and essentially stop the water flow because it would be sucking air through the vent. Sounds weird to me, I'd say it can't work unless the water pump is remote mounted and is below the water line! But apparently I'd be wrong... :)

I've got a check valve on the inlet to mine so that the pump stays primed as the pump is above the waterline. Haven't seen a vented line on the inlet side of any pump. Discharge side yes, but not the inlet.
