Used Onan Generator MDL4. --GONE--

I am replacing my 1989 Onan MDL4 generator. It is NOT working. I think fresh water in one cylinder. Is there any value in this? I will also have a 2012 Centek exhaust check valve 2 3/8". Also a Vernalift muffler. I am not sure about the in and out sizes of the muffler yet. Any interest in this stuff?Generator was running and making good power 1 year ago. Parts have been taken and generator is gone.

It is a 24 volt unit.

FWIW, my MDL4 is 32v...but it has a 24v starter that has worked well for years.

I also have a clean, fresh water, monel exhaust elbow from a MDL4.

All other parts off of mine have sold, so yes, there is some value there for parts. I sold the following:

Heat exchanger
Sound shield
fuel pump
raw water pump

The engine block and head went to a guy with an old Bobcat skid steer. Apparently it had the same engine.

Are you feeding that 24V starter with 32V?

The Onan MDL4 is out of the boat. We split the gen from the motor. We took the fuel injector pump, the starter and the raw water pump off the motor. I would love to sell the motor and electrical portion. Any interest? Available for pick up in Ft. Lauderdale.TonyText 262-215-5152

I still have the non working Onan MDL-4 generator. I have to get it out of the engine guys shop. FREE to good home. There should be some good parts on it. I also have the sound shield. Pick up in Ft. Lauderdale. Generator is split from engine. Some parts already removed.

David. I put in a new Kohler 23EKOZD. I got a bunch of quotes for gens in the 20kw range. Cheapest was around $11k for NorPro and Onan topped out at $23k. My issue was I needed a gen for the Bahamas trip that I am on right now. So I needed a unit that was in stock. Roger Wetherington from this site gave me a great deal on the Kohler. It was in the middle of the price range quoted from all units. The Kohler has a digital control panel with J1939 capability. Some would rather have non microprocessor controls for simplicity. Personal preference. Some things to look out for when selecting a unit. Hatch size. We ended up having to split the unit to get it in the forward hatch. Orientation and diameter of fuel, water, HV and LV inlets / outlets. Kohler had the exhaust on opposite side as the old Onan. Kohler exhaust is 3" diameter compared to Onan 2.5". I bought a new 3" muffler and then reduced to 2.5" before the thru hull so I could use the existing thru hull. I thought the Kohler would be whisper quiet compared to the Onan. It is actually louder outside the boat. Maybe because of the reduced thru hull? Control voltage. The Onan was 24v. Roger had a 24v Kohler in stock. 24v is typically an $1100-1800 up charge over 12v. Make sure you have an installer near you that knows the exact unit you are putting in. This will cut down on install time $$$.

Hi Tony,Man I would have loved to grab the raw water pump. Is the regulator transformer still on it? To take any parts off of it does the whole unit need to go?
