Some things are still new to me with this boat, but tonight I found something odd that is not in the Hatteras manual, and does not look origional. In the electronics box and under the console on the flybridge are these aluminum tubes about 3/4 of an inch around. On one end they have a cap, and on the other there is wiring coming out. They are both hooked up to the same switch which is 120v ac power. I have no Idea what they are, but I would like to know because after 23 years a lot of things are no longer necisary. Plus I just am trying to clean things up that are not factory. Thanks

I think they can be dehumidifiers, they exist in 12",24" and 36" long.

Sounds like "golden rods". Used for keeping cabinets moisture free. Great in cereal and cracker type cabinets in the galley and hanging lockers thruout the boat.

How do you determine if they are working?

If they're warm, they're working.

They are definetly not warm. They look rather old, so I guess they are not working. I will rip them out, They look like crap anyway.

That's the spirit! "If in doubt, rip it out!" You'll undoubtedly find more strange items...

After 23 years, People have left some stupid/crazy crap in this boat. Plus, it is amazing to me that people feel comfortable with jerry riggin crap that needs to work so you can navigate and be safe on the water.

I guess nothing amazes me anymore.
