  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
48' MOTOR YACHT-Series I (1981 - 1984)
I ordered a pair of the rubber covers for my GM windless foot switches. OUCH, $72! Shipping was $11 when two postage stamps would have brought them here and I'm very close to GM.

GM must be in competition with WM for who charges the most.

Bob

Maybe you should have called Ideal. I can't believe those rubber covers are much different other than the name on them.

Sounds like you bought the whole switch. I bought one about 3 years ago, the whole switch and I paid $74, I think.

That kind of thing really sets me off...Next time, how about a rubber inner tube...cut your own circle for $??? maybe a dollar max??? Should last five years at least...

Everything is getting stupid - Today I took the wheels off my Norton Commando to have new tires mounted. At the shop, after telling me the ridiculous prices they were charging for the tires ($140 each; $89 each on the internet) and mounting ($40 EACH) they also said there was a $10 "environmental charge." "What's that?" I asked. "It's to dispose of the old tires." "I can put the old tires in my trash can for nothing," I said. "We can't," they said. "OK, I'll take the old ones home with me," I said. "Fine, but we still have to charge the 10 dollars!" Go figure...

I'd have done this all myself and ordered the tires via the internet but I don't have time since I'm leaving NY in another week and have to ensure the boat is back in the water and running OK before I DRIVE back to Mexico!

It gets better. New York has a five dollar "disposal fee", which is nothing more than a tax, on each new tire sold. So every new car has a extra $25.00 on the final price. Yep, that's right, the bastards even tax the spare.

Enjoy living somewhere else Mike. I know I would.

Tires,

These are one of those products sold as new with a warrenty that they charge you to fix when you buy them.

Of course, by disposal, they mean "put on the rack and sold as used tires"

EXACTLY RIGHT!!! There is no doubt that's precisely what they will do. The "old" tires are good for several thousand miles with no trouble at all. I'm replacing them because the PO had non-matching tires which made the handling a bit weird.

But the fact that they can charge the fee even if you take the old tires home is the part that REALLY steams me and makes it obvious that it's just a tax. I'll bet the colonists revolted for less...A tax on tea? Who cares, most people don't drink tea! ;)

Thanks for that tip. Mine need replacing and I haven't done so yet because I think that price for that little circle of rubber is OUTRAGEOUS. I'll try the rubber inner tube and see how that works.

We pulled Unity at a yard not to be named. they charged us for a preassure wash thatwe really didn't need and told us that they require that on every haul out. Why don't they put that in the haulout price then? Next was a $50.00 environemental fee and $100 fee because we didn't buy our bottom paint from them. When we set up the haulout several months before, we told them we use VC-17. They said they couldn't get that paint. Now they tell us they have bought it recently and that it is becoming more popular. Yup, they charged us the $100.00 for not buying our paint from them even though they couldn't get it.
