  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
52' CONVERTIBLE (1983 - 1990)
ocean city winner had to forfit 2,8 million bucks for braking the rules. I read a news flash that the mate handed off the rod after fighting it for a short time. Do no know the full story but one thing for sure that could ruin your day

Them d@m DD i kept loosing about 1/4 gallon of coolant each trip off shore. Chalked it up to maybee just dissation. Then it got to be about 3/4 of a gallon last week it became 1 full gallon per trip.Today wasfind out why. I pumped it up to about 15 pounds of pressure it got down to about 4 within one hour. But no coolent any where. Pulled the dip stick and measured the oil pumped it up again after 3 hours gained some oil level. O Hello! Took of the inspection plates on the side of the engine the last one on the inboard side was the culpert. Coolant comming from around the piston it was wet. After removing the head about a 4 hour job. Found the liner was cracked after 400 hours. The head was not what you would call pretty. Pitted on the cylender where the water was coming out of. FROM WHAT I HEAR IT WAS A SAVING GRACE TO FIND IT. WATER WILL NOT COMPRESS HAD THE CYLENDER GOTTEN FULL OF WATER COUJLD HAVE BROKE CRANK OR DROKEN CONNECTING ROD AND THROUGH THE BLOCK. New cylender kit and a new head about 3 gran fix thank you boat gods.

MORAL OF STORY Pay close attention to water loss.

On new rebuilds?

I be calling the guys that did the rebuild for a come to Jesus meeting.

Check the exhaust on that side. I had an had to find leak that trashed the same cylinder as yours on a 6V92.

Jack, can you elaborate? Lots of 6V92 owners here will be interested.

I love my 71 series dry liner engines!

I had a pin hole leak on the top of the exhaust elbow. Only leaked after engine was hot and would close up after it started to cool down. Leaked coolant to the aft outboard cylinder on my port engine.

White Marlin Open

Think forfeit is way to nice of language for what I would call cheating. From the Interpleader filing with Worcester County Court it appears there were probably multiple rules violations, leaving early, fishing early, catching the fish early, and an angler switch. Just hope Hatteras didn't role with a press release or go to print with an ad about a Hatteras winning the tourney. Btw, the owner, who was reported as the angler, is in the "payment" industry...........

Sorry to hear about the 8-92 issue; 8-92 almost put me out of boating, the Cat repower was like being reborn.

Thanks Jack. So if the engine is not loosing coolant, is there anything to worry about?

I am with you on both counts them darn DD are a pain in the pocket book, not to mention the trouble. I am looking around and had contract on my 52 oil testing and loss of coolant found the issue. We believe the cracked liner was caused by the head not sure yet. As for the white marlin issue all i know is what was posted on face book. At best its another mess like big rock a year or so ago. I can assure you of one thing if they roll that money over to next year they can count me in. It will be a 5mil plus tourney. Probley the bigest in tournament history. As i understand there was no second place thats dock talk i do not know for sure.

ONE YEAR PARTS AND LABOR..IN WRITING BUSTED!!! OR SHOULD I SAY PLUCKED. TIME OUT BUT I AM GOING TO TALK...

A little bit of information in the head there is a plug that is tell tell it will disintegrate at 220 mine are in tack i have never seen it over 185. We believe head not sure yet. Could be bad injector we benched tested the injectors all four of them. The bad cylinder the injector was bad. I had problems with injectors and smoking under the warranty they replaced some injectors and this is one of them. The story thickens..WE WILL SEE MONDAY. Western Branch did all the work.

have a buddy that placed in 1 of the meat fish spots, he was notified that there should be an additional payment when the court settles the case.

They have insurance for things like this. Sounds like they treated the symptom but not the problem.

I could have got the rebuild for less with others. But i thought they could back up any problems. Like the lawyer said to me once i have insurance for my mistakes same as a doctor you can talk to them. Its a hard world if you follow that course. Western Branch has been kinda crapy on the local side but Norfalk has been straight up.

Tim I thought you had a pair of cats in the barn for that boat? Time to put em in there.

Yes correct. When i rebuilt the DD i sold them i did not have the wiring or black boxes or gages . The cost for that stuff is crazy. I purchased the engines from another repower
