Having been remiss on checking the lube oil level of my Twin Disc MG506's on my 43' DCMY, I took a look the other day. I had warmed the engines at the dock and checked their level while sitting at idle as specified. Well to my chagrin both showed low, almost a quart, so I dutifully added same.
Now I have been watching more closely. After a recent full cruise run for a couple hours, I again checked them (trans oil level) after getting back to the dock. Now I find that when the transmission cases are full warmed, that the oil levels are reading high...a little above the text "FULL", which is about a quart above the full mark.
So, it seems that the level is clearly affected by the temperature of the transmission case.
P.s., the oil is so clear at 20 hours run time that it is almost not visible. Also, the trans pressure is a little under 300#'s indicated at cruise and this is running the same lube as the engines, straight 40wt.
My question is whether others have noticed this difference in levels due the extent of heating of the transmission, before checking. Also, although a little under spec, does the pressure seem ok? Is running them a little over full an issue?
Thanks...
