  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
48' CONVERTIBLE (1987 - 1990)
So this busted Turbo clamp has now morphed itself into lets service all four turbos on my Covington 8V92 TA's
And to be fair, I'v owned the boat since 2004 and have never serviced them. Giving them a hard look
after the V Clamp breaking, there is some caked on soot. Engine with the busted clamp the worst and
that particular turbo the worst of the two.

More concerning however is that feel some shaft wobble or slight lateral movement on three out four of them.
Now my mechanic, who I think is a pretty good DD guy, scoured the Country and can find no rebuild kit or
"cartridges". And can only find three new Turbos from DD, in three different locations, at 3500$ a pop.

So, can I be the only guy with this issue? Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

My mechanic Wayne at Anclote Diesel in Tarpons Springs FL just did 2 on my 8-92's. May be able to source for you. Probably rare piece like mine.

P/N seems to be 28501263. Thank you.

Neither number translates to anything. It looks like you've got an extra digit in there.

Second digit is either a 3 or an 8. The plate looks like it was double stamped. I can try another turbo tomorrow. Does that on make more sense? Thx

The branch in New Iberia was very helpful and has old school Detroit guys in there. Found me turbo clamps I couldn't get anywhere else. They got them from their turbo rebuilder in Arizona. They should be able to find you some re-built turbos if they don't have one on the shelf

I'll give them a call thank you

Well a real helpful Gal @ Diesel Pro ran the Main Engine S/N 8VF127141 and came up with 23501263 for the Turbo.
Not 28501263. They can get reman'd "cartridges" in two days for a little less than half for new. They come out
Arizona.

Anyone have experience doing this? What are your thoughts? Thank you.

I bought mine new from Avenger. Was very happy.

Check out your "J" pipes too while you are at it.

Derek is the go to guy. I've bought injectors and turbos and never had an issue.

Keep it in the family.

I agree. I bought my last two turbos from Avenger.

Sorry. Not familiar with them and can’t seem to turn them over on the web. Also my mechanic
Is digging his heels in on a new turbos vs reman cartridges. Any thoughts on this? Other than twice the price? Thx

New turbos is the way to go. You get new castings. The flanges are clean and fit up with no leaks.

I agree with the new turbos but in a pinch the cartridges will work. When I went the rebuilt/cartridge route they just did not seem to perform the same as new. New probably has tighter tolerances which is the key to getting turbo efficiencies. Someone can feel free to correct me but the rebuilt with cartridges just did not seem to respond the same way as new.

Yup Avenger for all my Injector and turbos just hoping I never have to have him do my pumps but if I need it done I know where to go. Great service top notch shop I am lucky enough to be driving distance.

You guys are the best, thank you.

Sorry I haven't been able to follow up, had some family stuff that's kept me out of the shop. I'll be in today and I'll try to track them down for you.

And if you know a good DD mechanic in the New Smyrna Beach/Ponce
Inlet area you could recommend that would be appreciated as well.
We’re new up here and it is sparse compared to Ft Lauderdale. Lol. Thx
