I agree with Angela. Never had a problem because of tp. THERE ARE OTHER ITEMS HOWEVER. I'm sure that I need not say anything more.
LOL, Fred

We have 3 VF toilets on our 48 and have never had a clog from TP. We do use single ply Scott. Marcal paper is made from all recycled paper and is supposedly the same as RV paper with a different label. I was told by a upper management person at Marcal several years ago that they produce most of the RV/Marine papers out there and it was virtually the same as their reg paper with a different label.

Regarding using plastic baggies for the used TP, many years ago on one of my earlier Hatts with the regular electric heads that came with the boat would regularly get stopped up with TP so a friend of ours who had the same problem told us about the plastic sandwich baggie trick. Well it really worked. It did seem a little gross at first, but not nearly as gross as having a clogged head that needed to be un-clogged sometimes easy and sometimes not so easy. We used the baggie system for a long time and after the installation of my first Atlantes head on Hatt #3 with no problems, I just flush away. Hatt #4 (present) has VF heads and TP has not been a problem, just other annoying nickel and dime things.

"I've yet to see waste hose diameters on VF's to be smaller than the "stuff" they suck into a holding tank. It's rather a moot point in terms of comparing that to a mascerator."

What do the size of the hoses have to with it? Uh, nothing! We're talking about the head itself. Check it out. Of course what do Pascal and I know, we just use the things every day...

Now George, don't go getting yourself into a tizzy. You made the comment that pea soup could be made by sucking a pea through a small enough straw. That's where the analogy to hose size came into play. You may recall the subject of macerators came up and lead to this.

Outside that, Pascal says he uses regular TP with no problems. That is what the original topic was about, wasn't it?

Hey Bob, get yourself some Charmin and keep the women off your boat. You'll be fine. :)

What a great group. How many forums can generate 24 posts on a subject like toilet paper?:)

Its not just the TP that generates the interest... Don't forget the "stuff"

I am all tizzied because the venturi is in the head and has nothing to do with the hoses used to connect the head to the rest of the system.
To quote from the manual:

"The vacuum pulls the waste (at approximately 20 feet per second) through a one inch opening in the toilet base. Incoming air fragments the waste as it passes through the base opening. This process eliminates the need for macerators or mechanical motors in the toilet base. "

Now George, there you go off topic again when all we were doing was talking about toilet paper. :D

"The vacuum pulls the waste (at approximately 20 feet per second) through a one inch opening in the toilet base. Incoming air fragments the waste as it passes through the base opening. This process eliminates the need for macerators or mechanical motors in the toilet base."

Pay close attention to the last sentence as it relates to macerators. Mike said he couldn't see how this could even be close to the end result of running "stuff" through a macerator, and he is right. Yes, the VF system will stuck turds through a one inch hole, but that still leaves you with one inch turds in your holding tank. That would not be the case if they went through a macerator.

"Incoming air fragments the waste as it passes through the base opening"

what part of "fragment" dont' you understand?

I understand plenty about fragments and was just being sarcastic... to a point. Surely you are not going to argue that this method will leave you with larger "fragments" than a macerator would.

That still has nothing to do with the type of toilet paper Bob should use in his VF heads. I have 3 VF heads on my 58, 2 on the 41, and if you'd like I can come up with a list of other boats I've owned with VF heads. I've never had the first problem with TP clogging and have always used Charmin-type toilet paper.

Well there is only one way too settle this!!!

You need proof I will supply the Calipers to measure it and Pascal or someone else with a VF need to start measuring the output. For this to be correct you will need to use multiple outputs from different foods and people so that all density's will be covered.

So who going to RUN this test ;)

Maybe we can make it part of the festivities at the next HOF YankeeFest this summer.

Yes, that sounds like a great "First Mates" activity! We may come down from Westport (MA) just to participate.

BTW: "fragments" is used as a verb in that sentence I quoted. IMHO, I am not OT on TP; how the VF works is important to the TS process as is having the proper mix of H2O to BM.

20FPS is only 13 MPH. Boy, if it was me, I'd look for some way to soup that sucker up. I'd like to see something up there around Randy Johnson fastball speed before I could be comfortable that the TTT (total turd termination) factor is sufficient.

Maybe some of my old buds at Edelbrock can come up with a better "manifold."

OK, sorry...

:)

Come on down to YankeeFest George. IMHO you'll be SOL trying to explain that VF TP BS to a bunch of drunk SOB's and may end up MIA if you try. Be sure to bring plenty of TP for the VF or we'll have to use the VHF to find some PDQ and hope they'll do COD. Don't forget to BYOB as we don't accept IOU's.

HUH?

Maynard, This post makes it #36. There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that we all need to get another hobby. But what the heck, politicians talk s--t, the liberal media talks s--t, so why shouldn't we. Besides it's not as depressing as watching the news.

So true This I get as laugh out of, the News :(

Randy, my problem is the reverse... trying to get some good ones (women) ON the boat. ;>)

Bob

Well if that's the case, stock up on Charmin. Nothing runs a woman off faster than single ply TP.
