Hatteras Model
43' DOUBLE CABIN (1970 - 1984)
Greetings All,

I am a Boat US member but I do not have towing (yet). Wondering of the services available which is most cost effective?

Thanks,

Go with the unlimited.... worth it if/WHEN you need to call them (same goes for all the other ones like SeaTow)

I have the Boat/US unlimited and their IPhone app. Was on the Pathfinder one day and it quit on me. Fired up the app, someone answered, already knew my coordinates, 10 minutes later a tow captain called and an hour and a half later I was back at the ramp. No charge. Unlimited isn't cheap, but even that one instance paid for two year's worth.

I have had Towboat US Unlimited for four years. I believe that for boats like ours, the unlimited level is definitely the best value. For example, we had a soft grounding on an uncharted soft mud "lump" in an ICW anchorage last year. Try as I would, I couldn't wiggle off it. I called Towboat US and they were to us in less than 30 minutes. The bill if I didn't have the towing policy would have been $1400, but I didn't have to pay a cent.

I worked for Towboat/US in 2000... The captain gets 20% of the total bill... They are paid based on the time they leave their dock... whatever it takes to do the job plus the time for them to get back to their dock....
My ave. job paid a total of $500 back then... Most were to pull blowboats off the shallow water in the ICW... total time was maybe 2 hrs (remember, this was 11 yrs ago)
Many jobs were in excess of $1,000 with plenty in excess of $2,500.....

I bought BoatUS unlimited towing when I retired ten years ago and started cruising the boat 3000 miles a year up and down the east coast. I used it two or three times. Well worth the cost.... especially if you are an active cruiser.
