I have had Aqua lights for three years. They are great. 120 volt Metal Halide. When installing them, suprise! My underwater portion of the transom was cored!

I installed 4 in the transome of a 70 and was surprised to find it cored as well. I cut a larger hole from the inside to insure a water tight fit against the outer skin. Before installing the light you can also fair in epoxy and filler to seal the core and give it a cleaner look from the inside.

I recently completed interior upgrades on the interior
including blue LED lighting in the cabin, flybridge, and cockpit.
The next upgrade is the under water lighting. I would appreciate
any advice on manaf.,size, and quantity for my 32'.

Cored

I'm shocked - I would expect that from a Sea Ray, but not a Hatt.

What is the coring material? Can't tell from the pic.

There are obviously many quality brands of lights out there. I installed a pair of Intensity brand metal halide lights with strobes on a buddy's 48' convertable last spring - turned out real nice. I am considering them for our boat but have recently become very interested in the newer LED lights by Ocean LED.

Apparently the LEDs have come a long way and in many respects are better than the other types of lights available. Learned a lot from thier website www.oceanled.com and on another forum I frequent. Feel free to PM or email me for more details on the LEDs or the Intensity lights I installed last year.

LED seems to be the new technology to go with. I was working with a lighting designer ( for television and Film) who has been involved in the development of the newer LED systems coming out. based on the light output and the current draw it seems to be the best choice. I would be looking for a system that mounts flush with only a small penetration through the hull for the wires. Even if you put on 5 lights and each has a wire through the transom thats less potential leakage than a 3" or larger hole for a recessed unit.

It was a foam core. I just ground out about one inch all the way around the hole and glassed it in. Yea I was shocked. When I drilled the pilot hole I could tell something was up.
