I would like to add a third helm chair to the flybridge of a 1986 54MY. My main crew is deaf in his right ear so he needs to sit to my left to be able to hear if there is any hope for interesting conversation.

What does correctly installing a pedestal helm seat on the flybridge entail? I can't picture how to install a backing plate.

Thanks

Bruce

Remove the head liner to install.

Might be a little harder than you might think depending on the angle of the bridge floor.
Does the current companion pedestal have a pad underneath the deck plate to make sure the pedestal is at 90 degrees?
Also, make sure to hog out the coring where for the bolt holes so you can pack some putty in there so the coring doesn't compress when the deck plate and backing plate is snugged down and also to waterproof it.
Photo of current arrangement?

Use the eartec headsets or have crew wear an in-ear secret service type earpiece.
Boat modification might be the last resort.

That’s a great idea and definitely a lot cheaper and zero work.

If he's deaf in his right ear, wouldn't he have to sit to YOUR right, to hear via his left ear?
