Yesterday was a good day for boat repair. After I got the head working i relocated the autopilot compass from below the port side locker where I keep tools to a location on the centerline. After reconnecting the compass wiring I switched off the breaker which supplied power to the autopilot. When I switched it back on, the display showed the correct compass heading. We had a wedding to go to last night so no time for a test run. Today I took the boat out and the pilot worked fine.
The installation for the pilot I curious. It is wired directly to the 12v master breaker. The only way to turn off power to the pilot is flip the master breaker. The Corus system requires a separate source of power for the network . Instead of using a power cord, the installer cut into the network cable leading to the compass and spliced a couple of wires which were then connected rather randomly to a 12v source.
I do not know what actually fixed the pilot, but I am very pleased the it now works. Replacement parts for a Navico Corus Oceanpilot do not seem to exist. I was anticipating having to buy a whole new system.
Regards
