Thanks Boat/US, GPS 'Saved'
It has been announced that the company LightSquared (LS) has or will be going backrupt shortly. They are the people who had a high speed 4G wireless network design that would have greatly degraded GPS systems, anywhere that LS was deployed, at great danger and life threatening to users. Boat/US was one of the groups who fought it, including FedEx, UPS, Garmin (no wonder) and John Deere (GPS is used to automatically steer farm equipment?).
The FCC finally admitted that "no mitigating strategy" would allow LS to deploy its systems without drastically and unsafely impacting and degrading GPS.
Just a matter of time before officials allow the bankruptcy to happen. Interestly, a past Hatteras friend, Carl Icahn, took some type of bath, as his stake will return 60 cents on the dollar.
So at least I am pleased that for once, a bad policy did not get rammed through by the Feds.
