I can not express how important the members of this forum have been to my Hatteras experience. No matter what dumb, ignorant or crazy question I ask, I get great advice.

A month or two ago I was upset about how moldy my RIB had become and thought the damage was beyond correcting. From the Forum members, I went to Home Depot and bought MOLD ARMOR Instant Mold and Mildew Remover, 2X. (there is a 3X product also) From the grocery store I bought Mr. Clean, Magic Eraser pads. Since I am jaded from reading and seeing ads that say "all you have to do is ,,,,,", I thought it might be an effort in frustration. The darn stuff worked so well, I actually couldn't believe it. Spraying on Mold Armor, waiting for 5 minutes and then wiping it with Magic Eraser was unbelievable. I had forgotten that the RIB was actually white, not gray! I actually bought Mold Armor 3X by mistake when I got to Florida. It does not work as well at 2X doing the cleaning. After cleaning everything I could find including my 50 amp power cords, I read the label on the 3X spray bottle. I would use this product after getting everything clean with 2 X to retard future mildew and mold.

Thanks again for all the great contributions everyone makes to make this forum so valuable. Thanks to Sam's Marine, Steve McPherson and Doug Langley for providing this service for us. We certainly need to patronize their business to pay back for this valuable forum.

That's great news. I will have to try that approach on my power cord. I got most of the crud off with "acetone replacement" which is an ethyl lactate but I still have some deep rooted mildew. I will say I also picked up a good hint on the power cords here.
Coat them with some "Mop-N-Glow" once you have them cleaned up good. I used two coats and so far very good.

Great info on power cord cleaning. We have used soft scrub and a 3 M pad and it takes a lot of work to get it clean. The problem is after we get the cord clean it still has a sticky feel to it which of course
attracts more dirt. Does the stuff you used after the cord was cleaned remove that stickiness? We
have a cord cover when we are at our home slip but travel in the summers and don't put it on since
the cord retractor won't bring the cord in with the cover on. Thanks...Ross

I guess every now and then my 2 cents are helpful, as are the other contributors here.

I guess the site is working!

Try wiping it after you clean it with acetone or lacquer thinner to get rid of the sticky feeling.

Use 303 after cleaning to keep it clean.

I concur, yesterday with just an hour before a scheduled cruise out, water started drooling from our galley overhead light fixture.I suspected the AC evaporator pan had rusted through but a quick check of the archives revealed clogged drain hose as the likely culprit.Further reading discussed pro's and cons of using compressed air or vacuum to clear the line.Tracing the drain hose to the forward shower sump, just wiggling the hose restored flow.I then went with the vacuum recommendation and could hear and feel wet crud go through the hose.So my I also thank all who have contributed to this great forum.
