Textured aft deck ceiling

on my boat i have what looks like a popcorn ceiling on the aft deck.
is this a factory application? if so, what would be the simplest way to remove it?
The Admiral despises it to no end.

It’s factory. Sprayed on fiberglass texture. Unless you want to hate your wife forever don’t do it. I have a friend with a 53’ YF with the little 1/4 roof that started to sand it off. After two weeks he was done with almost 1/2. It’s a horrible job.

The previous owner had smooth fiberglass panels installed to cover ours.
