I put new 270 Cummins in my 34c back in 98. Ever since day one the starboard would sometimes show high temps. Long story short We ran sea trials with the infrared all over both engines. Both were the same even though I got the alarm. I just enjoy My boat and use the guages as a ballpark and visual alarm if anything goes wrong. The engines are great but the guages leave a lot to be desired. For real bad guages the ones in my 5th wheel camper can't be beat. Ater dumping all the tanks they show 3/4 full. Back to boating now. If my props get the slightest fouling I lose RPM. I found a GREAT diver 8 months ago (PM for his info if in St Pete)and I take good care of him, thats all it takes. I would bank on an reputable engine surveyor and if they pass base it all on the rest of the boat. Take luck

Yea, I used to own a Hat and would love to have one, 53 or 58 however maintaince issues on 30 plus year old boat would tend to break me in this economy. Maybe in a few years after our dogs are gone, they take as much attention as our kids did, we'll look again and maybe become liveaboards. By the way rsmith, I was put on the terrorist watch list for some reason and it was a bi-itch to fly. Only happened when flying with my wife! All of a sudden it went away, maybe the emails I send to my congressmen and senators daily. Any way as I said I value the input of the experts and know some of y'all personally. Know George may want to keep my new boat at least 100yds away but I can use the dink I hope, to come over to see you and Ann.

Your first post stated that your engines are rated at 2800 RPMs WOT. It also stated that you pinned out WOT at 2750 RPM. That only 50 rpm off. Any boat can be off that much from Day to day. From the sound of your load it could have been more than that. I don't think I would worry to much. The temp gauges I would be more concerned.
