Sulfated ash content of CF2 oils

I know this has been posted before, but I'm just about ready to pick up some more Exxon XD3 40wt and I thought I'd check the specs for sulfated ash of the competitors first. Here are the results:

So, I guess I'll stick with the XD3. I know Rotella gets mentioned quite often, but it seems that it is not one of the best on this specification.

I always used Rotella because it's what they had in the area that was easily available and "cheap." That was in LI. I use Assuron here because it's easily available and not cheap!

I use Rotella, even though it is not the best as far as the sulfated ash. Main reason is that it is readily available at my local NAPA dealer. Everything else has to be ordered. I guess I could go to the local DD dealer and buy the oil there, but I just hate bending over.

DD spec is for 1.00% or less, so the Rotella does meet that, but the Kendall out of spec by 18%.

Every couple of years I get together with a couple of friends with Detroits in their boats and we buy a couple of hundred gallons from DD local distributor. Traditionally they have a deal once a year for quantity buyers and the cost per gal is generally less than the other brands.

I still have around 100 gals stored in my shop, so I should be OK for a while, but the point is most of us have friends near our respective areas that may wish to do the same thing. Also works for filters etc...

I tried the Kendall on oil change ago on the rec of some members here, and because it was only $37 for 5 gallon buckets at Flamingo in Miami. I started getting nervous after reading the complete specs on Kendalls site and in my newly acquired DD service manuals for the 92 series. I called Kendall, (nice technical service by the way)and they affirmed that the Super D30 was NOT a CF 2 equivalent and recommended some other oils in the ConocoPhillips family.

This oil change, I picked up some DD PowerGuard a couple weeks ago at Florida Detroit Diesel for $62, about 8 dollars more than Rotella could be had for locally. Not a bad premium for having exactly the right thing, peace of mind wise, and a pittance in the bigger scheme of things for a most critical system on the boat. DD Power Guard Plus filters (23530408) were $21.39, about a 5 dollar premium over the Napas; for all I know the same filter, but again small change over all.
