So im in the process of brinking the helm wiring back to what it was originally. Can any one tell me what this was originally for?

There is a switch, light and instruction plate to the right of this for the synchronizer...they both operate it?

More likely someone added the switch that works. What you have there is the original switch and light that is no longer hooked up
