Hatteras Model
43' MOTOR YACHT (1984 - 1987)
I need to get a new stainless steel exhaust elbow for my 671 TI Detroit on my 1987 Hatteras Motoryacht. The present one has corroded at the solder joint and at another point and is leaking. Can anyone give me info as to where I can get one made? Also info on how to get it off and a new one on would be appreciated.

Call Steve McPherson at Sam's Marine (this website). If anybody knows, he will. There are a couple of old threads on places that can make new ones also. Just do a search.

BTW - They may be monel, not stainless.

Doug is correct. They are probably monel, which is a higher grade than stainless. You can use stainless, but they won't last close to 20 years. If Doug can't help, check exhaust systems in the yellow pages. They'll need to be manufactured. To remove, plan on taking your time to loosen up the old hoses and hose clamps. Plan on replacing all. Take the old sys into the shop, they'll build a "like" replacement.

BTW there are a couple threads on the same subject.

Marine Exhaust in Riviera Beach, FL can make up darn near anything.

I had a full system made for Gigabite, as mine was getting pretty ratty. For the 45 degree elbows I had them do them in Fiberglass instead of Monel (the original material); Fiberglass will outlast the boat and its comparable in cost.

forget about the metal elbows, go with fibreglass. use a lot of dish soap as lubricant, lots of muscle and be prepared to get dirty. the hoses are most likely fine
