So where do folks with newer Hatteras's get together online?

I frequent a site called YachtForums.com It is populated with yacht designers, builders, owners, and yachting professionals that engage in (mostly) meaningful discussion. Yachtforums is a highly moderated site that does not allow the "free for all" behavior that plagues much of the internet. You may find some worthwhile info there on newer builds.

Define "meaningful discussion". No offense (unless you want to take it personally), but that "forum" is a joke. Ask Dave (captddis) his opinion of the place.

Any well built and maintained aluminum yacht will outlast any f/g yacht and hold value longer.....burger is the prime example along with Fedship etc..

If Burger or Fedship made fiberglass boats they would be the same quality boat the aluminum ones are. As for aluminum outlasting fg, it might true but at what cost to maintain it. Most fiberglass boats go away due to neglect, not deterioration. Not putting Hatteras down, but comparing them to a Burger of Fedship is like comparing ground beef to filet mignon. For starters one is a custom build the other a production build.

material to material in a saltwater environment I will take molded FRP over aluminum any day. If both were properly prepared and kept painted and maintained the fiberglass will outlast the aluminum and prove to need less maintenance. That's of course comparing similar quality builds of each material. can anyone say Striker? That's a comparison to the Hatts we know and love and they do not hold up as well.

You have to be kidding??? What a bunch of self absorbed arrogant people and wannabe's. 75% of the mechanical advice is just plain wrong. Carl and his henchmen treat members like they are inmates instead of members.

"These guys don't worry about how to fix their boats, that's someone else's job."

Dead right Saltshaker! Might be worth starting a forum thread on picking the right yacht interior designer for your new vessel, or, what to look for in a delivery captain and crew manager.

That is where the new boat Hatteras folks would hang out, not us. <gg>

Here's a bargain for you and exactly what you asked for!

There was a mid '80s Burger on the dock with us last week. Looked fantastic. Still had the lines of the old boats. Further down the dock was a newer Burger that is owned by the owner of Burger. Beautiful boat but not as pretty as the old ones.

Speaking for us old, creaky guys, the '64 is beautiful! I think there used to be such a boat around Grosse Pte in the 60's called Jig-Mil (didn't know what that strange name was, when I was young, before I saw my first jig-mill up close.)
