Sideways photos

We are all familiar with the sideways photo issue here. Here's what I've found:

* I only have the problem when I take photo's with my iPhone, transfer them to my computer and post them directly.
* If I open the file in a viewing program (Preview in my case) and then save it (even though I made no changes) it keeps it from happening.
