Shrunk my 48MY Hatt Again

When I bought Chateau de Mer seven years ago, she was a big boat and I generally look at her that way. My big baby But several years ago I began running down to the New River City Marina in Ft. Lauderdale for a few days of R&R and local culture. The old girl sure shrinks along side the real big yachts that are tied in or move through the river. Humbling!!

As we travel down from Port St Lucie, we always look at and assess the other yachts. There are sure a lot of these old Hatteri out there and most still look good as we go by. And the chlorox bottle boats look uglier and uglier. Thank you Jack Hargrave.

Every winter we made a point of spending a few weeks at one of the marinas all the way up the New River, west of 95, either Marina Bay or Yacht Haven. At the Haven, you'd think you were somewhere off the Okeechobee or St. Johns, funky but pretty, and your next door neighbor was an RV'er. Made many friends there. The trip up and down the river is really "a trip". That's up where all the BIG yards are, it was a lot of fun tooling around in the Whaler exploring the whole FLL area. Wish we were there!

Heck, I was born and raised in Ft Lauderdale (actually Plantation) so grew up looking at BIG BOATS....Then moved to W.Palm Beach in 1979-1985 and the town of Palm Beach was my work area.
My first 'delivery' was (in my eyes at the time) a HUGE 40' Matthews from Ft Myers to Ft Lauderdale back in 1973.....
I remember bringing a 60' Hatt from Miami to Jacksonville in 2002 and how "impressively" big we were in the ICW... Till we hit Ft Lauderdale and W. Palm Beach and saw the size of the monsters docked there.....
