Bugsy,

Yes, I believe you will be fine with 100 hr and/or annual changes. Just be sure to keep an eye on the oil level on the engine and transmission. If you seem to use an excessive amount of oil in the engine and the transmission level rises then you may be ready to consider biting the bullet, but if you only need to drain a little from the transmission once or twice a season, then I think it's a judgement call as to how much you value your time and effort to drain occasionally vs the cost of pulling the unit and replacing the seals. It's essentially a measure of your PITA tolerence level.

Walt

p.s. Sell the multigrade oil and buy the correct oil. Read some of Karl's posts about it (Genesis) and you will see why it's important to use 40 w exclusively.

Where are you going to be on Lake Huron, Just curious, I am up at Bay City, not many HOF'ers up here.

Go with 40w - it works in the engines, tranny's and Niads if you have them. 1 5 gal bucket aboard is enough for several areas...

Also - being in Western Lake Erie, I 2nd a small Hatt rendezvous! I can offer either CIC Club or Rattlesnake Island Club for a destination...or both for a multiday deal...

Spring is right around the corner so we have to do this!

This version of the document has a little more detail about our 2 stroke engines in marine use. The link posted earlier focuses on on-highway use.

My Naiad manual says to use 10-40w. I cheat and use 15-40w because I had some around and the genset is OK with it too. It would make my life simpler to go to all straight 40, which actually my mechanic recommends for the old Onan.

Lenz,
Come to think of it, the owner of CIC has a 53 YF, and would likely welcome a group. Several other Hatt's at the club as well (a couple 56's, 48's, MY's, and SF's).

I'm going to start another thread "Great Lakes Rendezvous '09" - we'll see what comes of it.

Now back to the main thread...

We really like the boat so we've decided to procede with the mechanical survey. We'll be sure filters and screens are checked- I thought using a magnet was a great idea.

Thanks for your replies, I'll keep you posted.
