If as mentioned by DCMY, on another thread, these lamps require a neon bulb could this be why my regular 110v bulbs blow the instant I put them in. I stood there for ages with my last of three spares............phut! Has me foxed, how can a 110v wired boat blow a 110v bulb?
One other point though, boat has been re-wired from 2 x 110v inlets to a 50/250v inlet although no 250v is used or wired on the boat, would it be possible that this lamp holder is somehow wired to alternate phases?
Thanks
Colwyn.

Sounds as if you lost your neutral going to or on the boat. Ive seen in some cases where removing a neutral wire can back feed 110v through what used to be a neutral wire. However it's rare but possible. Any way before you install another bulb I'd suggest you check the light socket to see what you have for voltage. If it is 220v you lost your neutral and don't turn any thing else on. Inductive loads like compresser's or motors will blow very quickly.

OK, I'm concerned. I will investigate further or get an electrician aboard. I did remove the shorepower bulkhead inlet from the boat and found the green grounding tab had broken off and was hanging loose. The inlet has of course been replaced. The issue with the bulb was before I found that and it happens I have not used the shorepower since. All quite recent events.
Thanks for the advice.
