  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
41' CONVERTBLE-Series I (1964 - 1971)
Does anyone know what the correct angle is supposed to be when installing rudders and connecting them to the tie bar?
I have always felt my boat was difficult to steer in a straight course no matter how calm. In the yard for some maintenance and there's an identical 41 Hatteras to mine on blocks. Measured the rudders and same size as mine but his boat the rudders are towed in about 3/4 inch less than mine. Wonder if that has anything to do with it.

1/4 to 1/2 inch toe-in is recommended. Probably has no significant effect on steering, but if toe is excessive it will effect performance.

Check for bent rudder shafts! I have owned two boats and BOTH had bent shafts and Both were missed by surveyors. Neither was bent bad and who knows how it happened but the current ones had to be pressed out of the bearing they were so bad. Steers much better now!
