  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
36' CONVERTIBLE-Series I (1969 -1977)
Looking for a ballpark dry weight and waterline length of a series1 36C. Is 21000 lbs close? My yards hoist scale does not work and I am trying to do get new props and we need to do an analysis. Thanks Bob

22K is what I have heard but the prop shop should be able to get specifics for the boat, Hull type and other similar vessels.

20,820 Lbs, w/ 75 gallons of water and 200 gallons of diesel on board. This includes a hardtop of approximately 240 lbs. Engines are original 3160 Cats, like the 3208. Naturals. Very heavy engines.

What power/transmission combo are you running? Maybe folks with like set-ups can help.

I have an original color sales brochure for the Series One and all other models from Hatteras dated 1972. It also has small shematic plans for each model. Tried to attach a picture of it but the size is too big for the forum to accept. so I gave up.

Length overall 36' 1"
Beam 12' 9"
Draft 3' 0"
Freeboard Forward 5' 11''
Freeboard Aft 3' 3"
Head room 6' 4"
Fresh Water 70 gals
Fuel 300 gals
Weight Displacement 19,000 lbs
Height above waterline 12' 11" to top of windsheild

Thanks for the info. Bob

I think the waterline length is about 32-33 feet, but not sure. My 36C weighs about 21-22K. The Cummins engines weigh less than the 3160 Cats, and the ZF gears weigh less than the TDs which were behind the Cats. Some other info:

Shaft size 1.5", gear ratio 1.5:1, wheels four-blade Michigans 21.5Dx22P with "moderate cup" (whatever THAT means), max speed at WOT 31+ knots; this boat is slightly underpropped which is good. That performance with two people up, >half tank of fuel (150gals) and no water on board.

From what I can tell with the boost and pyro gauges, the sweet spot seems to be about 15" of boost which is roughly 2300 revs and about 23kts. At that speed the EGT is about 900 degrees after the turbo, both sides, and she seems very happy. I don't know what the fuel burn rate is, though. Most likely more than I want to think about:)
