Hatteras Model
45' CONVERTIBLE-Series II (1984 - 1992)
I am about to purchase based on survey a 30 ft Rybo Runner has anyone heard anything about them thanks. Tom/ Gina Marie

I have heard good things about them. Is this an old or Newer boat? These are built under quite a few different names. Dusky builds their large boat with different decks, but is the same hull. There was also a company around for a while called Rainbow Runner, and they built them the exact same as the "Rybo". Does this boat have the air ventialted steps? These are the only area of concern if you are going to leave the boat in the water because as I recall they are difficult to clean if they get growth in them.

They were noted for sinking due to the scuppers being so low to the water line and the wait of the engine made the water line to low. I know of one guy that repowered his with a lighter engine but the boat didn't ride the right way in the water . I have also heard that the way to go is take the inboard engine out and put twin outboards on her and she will perform correctly. Who knows what the best thing is to do but they sure were good looking boats.

A friend of mine bought one that had sank at the dock. He repowered it with a single diesel (not my choice of power for a boat that is built for speed). He had a few fuel tank problems from the water. He talked to the person that had bought the mold from Rybovich and they recomended twin 225hp outboards with a foam filled mount for flotation to keep the scuppers above the water. He said this combination would produce speeds to 60mph.
Good Luck

I do not have experience with the inboard versions, but there were quite a few built with outboards in later years. These outboard popwered versions are well liked.

I would be curious how the Rybo Runner does with new 4 stroke outboards which are HEAVIER - if there was a problem with being to low in the transom before, it is worse now.

Tom, some friends had the very same boat with twin Merc EFI 2-stroke 225hp obs. We were out in some very nasty weather with that boat (those boys were part Viking, I'm pretty sure!) and it never raised an eyebrow with how it handled weather. I really can't speak to fit & finish, as this boat was pure function and the boys didn't sweat the fine stuff too much. VERY hardcore fishermen who made sure the mechanicals were always dialed but could care less about the gloss.

Theirs had a small marlin tower. Nice lines, I agree, and it seemed very solid.
