Hatteras Model
45' CONVERTIBLE-Series I (1968 - 1975)
In early March, I have to move a 27 Blackfin from Cape Canaveral area to Boynton Beach .... not a big deal. Boat is twin outboard and easily accessable fuel filters. Only problem is that the boat has been sitting in rack storage since October. The fuel is gonna be close to 6 months old by the time I move the boat. My thought is to run the intercoastal (since I don't know the boat at all) at least until I feel comfortable with it mechanically. Any suggestions on what to do regarding the old fuel. There was/is a product called "fresh start" that was supposed to revive old fuel.

Well Fl at least is not E10 yet so that helps. But even still the problem with todays gas is Octane level drops with age. I would spend some $ on octane boost also and try to get fresh high test gas in there also. If you have filter problem it will be due to bacteria growth the fresh start will not help that the AJX Gas will.

I don't see a problem with it. I would run it around for an hour or so close by then start your trip. If it were me i would not top off even if you could. If the gas is bad why contaminate the fresh gas. It's like gold these days.

Where in Canaveral? We're in canaveral too. Depending on how its stored and where it should have no fuel problems if it was OK to begin with and the fuel was treated even better. PM if you need a hand. FYI I would do the ditch over open water if you are looking for an easy run. no fighting the stream and pleant of places to see and even stop.

Why ??? Because have you seen what happens to Piston due to low octane.
Yes Gas is expensive but have you looked at the price of NEW Outboards

I'm sure the Merritt Island / Port Canaveral contingent would like to meet you and even throw a Bon Voyage Party. We just like that kind of stuff.

I'm flying in on March 8th and back (to NY) on the 13th, so I've got a realistic 4 day boat window. Boat is at Cape Marina, where it was purchased.
I may just stay inside and do a 2 day cruise, trying to stop somewhere fun in the middle. Any suggestions ?

I estimate Ft Pierce to be 4 hours for you and I am not sure how much further to Boca. Thats at 20Kts or so. I did Ft Pierce to the barge canal in 4 at 15 kts but you have the locks and the canal to deal with. It could be a nice easy 2 day run.

Up North here our boats are put away for six to seven months. No one that I know worries about fuel. I put a 21 Boston Whaler Outrage in a building from October until mid May, it has a Yamaha 225 that starts immediately after sitting six or seven months without any issues. Maybe laying a boat up in FL effects the quality of the fuel more than in the colder climates.

Well warmer temps can cause more evaporation plus up North this all GOOD mechanics will tell you store as low as possible then add fresh and they are saying the same for diesel I am about 1/4 tank right now and will add fresh before I push them levers foward... How many days to SPRING :(
