OK, I have rewired about 75% of my boat, and so far I have found a way to run these wires. I was replacing my forward bilge pump and switch which is just aft of the v-birth on my '69 45C. As I spliced into the original duplex wire, I noticed the black corrosion on the copper wires and it didn't stop for a few feet. My problem is how can I run a new wire up there from the engine room? The old wire goes from the centerline to the starboard hull wall, and it's wire tied every 18" across beneath the floor and on the hull. Short of tearing out my galley cabinet backs, I am scratching my head.

I have found that you could go either of two ways. Port side follow plumbing lines form the engine room, under outboard bunk in stateroom, under locker, under and behind vanity thru small access hole in bulkhead and down to foreward bilge area. Second route is starboard outside foreward corner of engine room, behind locler and refrig, behind galley cabinets,(remove all bottom drawers) under sink base to centerline. A good fish wire, lights and mirrors are a big help.

Your new wire doesn't have to follow the exact same path to get there. Just has to have both ends wind up where they need to be.

My 36 has a chase of sorts on the stb side that runs from the engine room to the stb side of the master that is visible when you remove all the drawers on the stb side and look up underneath the berth. I don't know if your 45 does, but it just might. It is a simple matter to snake a new wire there and then run it into the forward bilge and back to the pump location. Removing the old wire is another matter and though it is best to remove all the dead head wiring, it may not be possible to get it all out. My original pump wiring came under the deck, and most of it is still there...

Good luck

Hatteras45,

I removed all the bottom drawers and only the one below the stove gives me access to the hull. I'll be down at the boat tomorrow and will look to go down the port side. Have you found it easier to make the run beginning in the bow or from the engine room? thanks for your help.

on the port side i took the access panel off that is under the sink in the head. get a fish wire from there foreward, pull in a pull cord. then i went aft to under the outside bed, there is a cut out on the aft end of the bed, this is also near the bulkhead to the engine room.
