Hi, I have a Robertson AP200DL and the head unit finally took its last breath. Everything else works great. I've checked for a while to see if a used head popped up but no dice.
Anyone know the interchangeability of the new Simrads to the old Robertson units?? Do they just plug in, do they make plug adapters? will the existing components I have even talk to a new head? or do I have to replace everything??

I don't think the head and Junction boxes are compatable, however the hydraulic pumps are interchangable.

Agree..have had excellent experience with Simrad Roberston customer service...they'll know immediately.

Simrad reconditioned the control head for my ap22. It is a newer unit, but not new and out of production. It works like new. I would give them a call, you may be surprised at what they might be able to do to it. Mine took about 4 weeks to get back.

Re: Robertson / Simrad interchangeable?

I actually already called them. They weren't sure; they said "possibly interchangeable". I wasn't really impressed w/the confidence level of the rep I was speaking to, so I was hoping someone here has already been in this predicament. I didn't ask about fixing the old one though.

Simrad was taken over by Navico. Navico now owns Northstar, Lowrance, Navman, Eagle, Simrad, and more. I believe that Simrad was originally based in Washington state. Navico is based in Massaacusetts. I don't know how many of the original Simrad folks moved to Massacusetts. I don't think that the level of support is as good as it was before the move. They will likely get better over time. I recently called Navico with a Simrad issue and recognized a person that I have dealt with for Northstar issues.

As in many cases, escalate your call if you don't get the answer you want. It does make me nervous to hear the Navico issue. When I called Simrad a couple of years ago about my old Robertson, the guy stayed on the phone with me for over 1/2 an hour while I was underway helping me tune it.
