Anybody know of someone who has done it? Written about it?

"Retirement" is a long ways off, but we're thinking about it and want to get more data. Thoughts?

We bought land in the grand Bahamas. we love it and we will be building soon. it is not very commerical and the people are wonderful. the best beaches around and the water is the best.. the prices are very reasonable right now. but they are going up quikley. we have land right on the canal. good boating, tuna right out of the channel.

You are potentially exposed to double-taxation (there and in the US); by law a US Citizen's income is taxable in the US "no matter where derived".

Now with that said if you have income over there its damn hard for the IRS to find out about it. BUT - in this ever-shrinking world of data connections....

Anyway, the thought has defnitely crossed my mind. There ARE strategies for leaving and NOT being subject to taxation, but they're complicated and can involve steps you'd rather not take.

If you're serious about this you need to talk to some legal and tax accountants and work with them to structure something that makes sense and won't or can't come back and bite you.
