  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
43' DOUBLE CABIN (1970 - 1984)
I enjoy the company when running the boat from the aft deck helm (43DC) but at night they often want to turn on the dome light which does not help my night vision. I found a replacement which has a white flourescent and a red led and two levels for each.

The light came from( http://www.alpenglowlights.com/vmchk/overhead-lights/9-watt-dual-power-and-led-night-vision.html ) and is manufactured here, well in Montana.

The customer service is about as good as it gets. The first light failed after a few months, I called, spoke to the owner who was very apologetic. Told me the failure was very unusual, asked me to mail it back and offered to repair and return or send me a new one. I was impatient and chose the new light. I received it in a few days and later and although didn't ask for it, was sent a check for the cost of mailing in the new one.

The light provides much more lighting than the old perko dome and the red light does not interfere with boat operation. It fits within the smooth space where the old light was located.

I went to that site and was wondering if you had any trouble mounting a square fixture where there was once a round one. Were there any modifications required. I find that my overhead light doesnt provide anywhere near as much light as i would like.

Thanks
Art

My round dome light simply sat on a flat space in the middle of the hardtop. The space is bigger than the dome and big enough that the larger replacement fit in the same spot.
No problem with installation
I cut the old wires, connected the new ones after reducing the wire size to match the new light, used butt connectors and shrink tubing and made sure polarity was correct. Then I simply drilled 2 new hole into the underside of the hardtop and screwed the new light in place.

Vincent,
Is the new light a lot brighter?

Art,
Yes, the white light covers pretty much the whole aft deck. And that is with either the high or low settings. Although I was more concerned with a less bright light and the red led does just fine.

Regarding space, I am not quite sure your concern. Attached is a photo, I don't quite know how it got that far off center.
