I'm getting ready to start this project on my 36C and wondered if anyone has rebuilt the hatches as the current units are saggy and generally worn on the corners. I have a total of 6 hatches in the salon, four approx. 5' long x 18" wide and two approx. 2.5' x 18" wide. Is it easier to rebuild existing hatches or just make new ones? I believe all of them rest on steel frames running fore and aft and the two smaller hatches have a cross brace dividing the two.

Build new! I have a 36 C and just had mine re-built this spring.

Started to re-build myself, but the more I stripped them down, (carpet, floor tiles), they just fell apart. After 38 years, they were toast.

Had a young guy, actually a really good ships carpenter, rebuild them. Worked out Great. I bought lead lined sound insulation and put that on my self.

We were replacing all flooring in boat with teak and holly, so we put same on surface of hatches. Only thing I would have done different is put larger hand holds, lifting rings on hatch exterior.

I can give you the name of the carpenter, he travels!

Thanks and yes, please pm the name and contact info.
