The whole torque/HP curve thing was designed for marketing.
Note that if you look at a torque/HP curve for two engines, the engine that has more torque below 5250RPM also has more HP than the other engine at the same RPM. As has been noted, there should be just one "POWER" curve. It could be in HP, KW, NM, or any other measurement you care to use.
All the dual HP/Torque curves do is cause confusion but we're stuck with them I guess, just like the stupid 0-60 times which were another marketing invention in the '50's that has no correlation to anything meaningful. But it sells a lot of cars/Mcycles...
