My Marine Power 454's have the typical crank driven raw water pumps. I noticed that the port pump wobbled as evidenced by the hoses vibrating and feeling it when you put a hand on the front of the pump (carefully!). So thinking PO blues I removed the pump and cleaned all surfaces- crank damper, pulley and pump flange. There was actually little cleaning to do and very little corrosion on any of the parts. The wobble is still there. The pulley turns straight and true- just the pump wobbles. So here are the questions:
1) Must be a bad pump? This one happens to be a Johnson; other engine is Jabsco and does not wobble. Anyone ever seen a bad pump? Any opinions regarding Johnson vs Jabsco vs Sherwood?
2) I have an old oem pump that looks good except for shot bearings from a failed seal. Does it make sense to rebuild one of these on a DIY basis? Perhaps Depco would be able to provide the parts.
3) Looks like I can get a new pump for around $200. These things must come from China- the price hasn't gone up in 15 years. Maybe rebuild isn't worth the effort. Do we trust that the brass/bronze is as good as my old oem pump?

I'm guessing the bearings are shot and if your turn by hand the slow speed doesn't reveal the wobble that occurs at engine rpm speeds. Did you try pushing/pulling the pulley sideways to determine is there is any play?
