Paul,
I'm actually in an area behind the marina...if you head straight in from the inlet and pass northshore marina on the stbd and follow the buoys stright in until you make the stbd turn to head towards massey's ditch you will pass what is called Seaside Marina...a portion of the Potnets community. My boat is in there because we have a small trailer down there. Keeps us from doing the drive and the slip rent is reasonable as well. Its a straight shot to the inlet for me with plenty of water. Great deal.
No, the Hat you saw isn't the one I purchased about three years or so ago. I bought mine from SC from a younger guy who was in med school at Chapel Hill in NC. His Dad bought him the boat and he took his women on the boat for weekend getaway...at least thats what his dockmates told me when I spoke with them during my visit.
Awesome boat. I love it. Mine is a flybridge model...the one you had probably ran a bit more efficient without the flybridge. Mine has the 454 hogs as well, but they're freshly erbuilt this past year and I'm looking forward to some action on the water. Did so much work to it I can't even begin to list it. We did absolutely everything ourselves (my dad and I). So we saved a ton of cash. Don't think I'd be able to do it if I had to pay someone. All that's left now is a small amount of cosmetics but she's ready to go this spring. I may put her in for an early season so I can properly continue to breakin the engines. Getting that hardtop on as well in March so I can put on the new radar.
On the toughness...I remember on one occasion I was with my dad and a group of six out tuna fishing. It got ugly so we heading in early. Long ride back...Had my dad take the wheel because I had to go below and use the facilities. On my way down I told my Dad the waves were getting bigger and starting to break every now and then. He said "You have no clue how big they are. Step down and take a look." Sure enough...I got down and couldn't believe what I was piloting through! Those wave were taller than me standing in the cockpit and she was riding extremely well though it with no pounding. Those waves were easily 8 with a 10 thrown in every now and then. My first time in that kinda stuff because I would have never found myself in that in my 20fter. With the VHF on I got an update and head from the weather channel that 7-9's were the forcast. Definitely different than the morning forcast of 3-5's. Regardless, we made way and eventually got inside the inlet. Unbelieveable! Its amazing how waveheight is distorted when you're up on the bridge.
