Racor air leaks

Ok I’m not convinced that the seal on the handle allows the racors to drain. On my twin racor 1000 both drain and hold vacuum without a drop evident anywhere. When I pop the tops I hear the air leaking back in. Where is the fuel going ? I have my supply and return selectors to where I assume is off. I think the fuel is leaking back into the engine and after I get slipped up the season I’m gonna put a ball valve there to verify.

Any air leak in the system will cause it the lid gasket is the most likely culprit since many times the wrong seal is included with the kit. I had the packing in my tank selectors valves leak many years ago. The packing gets old and dried out I got the 3 way valves from Sam’s. And it was a nightmare putting them in.

I think they do. Almost as soon as you start turning the handle but before there's no pressure on the lid seal, you can hear it start sucking air into it.

So, looks like the solution is to get new lids and handles. Here is what Racor says to the question of older 1000MA seal compatibilities:

"The only place the T-handle gasket for the older models is available is the RK 11-1404.

This kit has all seals and gaskets for current and previous models of the 1000 assembly.

The RK 11-1606-1 is the replacement bowl for the marine 1000 turbine assembly.

It took some time to compare the older style lid and center tube to the current models.

You should be able to update the lid and the T-handle vacuum gauge for use with your assembly.

The lid: RK 11-1933-04

The T-handle vacuum gauge: RK19671"

Speaking of racors I picked this fuel polisher up over the weekend $300 estate sale the son thought it was an oil changing unit. His dad had a dump truck and construction business. Only thing I can think they used it on Job site storage tanks. I’ve got the boat behind the house and I’m thinking of putting in a 500 gal fuel tank. Actually 499 gal under 500 no permits are needs here in Florida. I think I could use this to pump fuel to the boat as well as polishing
