  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
56' MOTOR YACHT (1981 - 1984)
All I can find on Amazon is the 2010SM 2010 Aquabloc II. See attached pix.
Went onto Racor's site and the search engine returns nothing. Does it matter?

If you want a 2 micron filter, the 2010 is this one. But the 10 micron or 30 micron will work too.

I really hope this is a secondary filter?
Primary (mud) filters are usually 30 mic.
Next question, 500 or 900 filter assembly?

2 Micron is fine as a primary. Tony Athens did a test and found that fuel flow was the same as with a 10 or 30. The only difference was that it plugged up faster.

We get 30. 10 and 2 micron filters regularly. Not from scamazon. I use real distributors. Last l looked we were using 10 for primary and 2 for finals on most cummins engines.

If you go with the 2 micron, better get a dozen as they will clog super fast and that level of filtering is not required for DD 2 strokes.

I've run 30 micron on the primary for over 20 years with great success on DDs.

This is for the Northern Lights Generator, not the DD. Where is a competitive place to shop other than Amazon? I hate to order from them.
Was going to replace the fuel line, while I was installing the aux fuel pump. What type of fuel line should I purchase and sources?

Any suggestions on where to get the three way valve to isolate the aux fuel pump?

Would you have threaded ends crimped onto the hose or are clamps sufficient?

Sorry for all the basic questions, but I really don't have any boat buddies up here. When I would get stuck before, I would give Randy Register a call, but I guess that's not an option anymore. Anybody have an update on Randy?

Randy's sounds. He just voted tired of answering questions.

Ok. Seriously

What size filter for what size generator?

He posted a quick reply on one the Hatt FB pages saying he was ok.

I ve always run 30 in the Racors and 2 in the secondaries or whatever the manufacturer supplies, whether DD, Cats, MTU, Cummins, Onan, NorLight, etc. Never has an issue. I replace both primary and secondary at every oil change.

Clamps at fine since you re on the suction side or low pressure when the pump is running

Grainier has the valves, Apollo 3 way valves. They also have the barb fittings

NL secondary filters are nominally 12 mic. Why do away with staged filter progressions?
30 mic primary (mud filter) Racor is the norm for normal installations.

As I posted on another thread,; Some HOF members have food grade fuel tanks and run 10 mic (or less) mud filters.
Still defeats the progress of multi fuel filters.

Interesting note on Amazon; we never had a problem when we knew what exactly we were ordering.

Thank you for the information, especially about Randy. Ralph, my beef with Amazon is it has concentrated exceptional power and money with a man whose values I abhor. When possible I always purchase local or from people I know. Not always possible, but I try.

It's possible to completely avoid scamazon. I don't use them at all. There is nothing they have I cant get elsewhere and usually at better prices.

They also bring in cheap Chink crap and violate us company's sales guidance and prices.

If you can't find them let me know. I probably have a few.

Speaking of changing Racors at every oil change; what is the suggested preventive maintenance suggested internal for polishing your fuel? I had an issue of being in heavy weather last spring on my Hatt 67' and the Racors immediately clogged up within a short distance of entering the Atlantic.

Changed primary and secondaries in route and immediately solved the issue. Had both tanks polished shortly thereafter and change filters regularly. The immediate shutdown of engines due to a fuel issue can be extremely dangerous depending on your location, speed and course of direction.

Most diesels especially DDs return a lot of fuel to the tanks so as long as the boat doesn’t sit forever your fuel gets polished automatically

Since water and trash ends up at the bottom, sticking a piece of copper pipe in the to pump out whatever is at the very bottom can help.

The stuff that’s going to clog the filter is the goo algae which is way larger than 2 or even 10 microns. Plus your secondary is 2 micron or close to it anyway why not get it out in the primary which in most applications is easier to change. As far as fuel flow I run 12v71s and have vacuum gauges on the racors new filters barely even move the needle.

I’ve been running 2020 sm 2 microns since I put the racors on in 1978 20,000 hours in offshore charter service never a problem. Everyone who says different is just repeating myths they heard on the internet.

You are spot on!! I've always run 2 micron in my Racors. Never had an issue. I'd much rather drop a new cartridge in a Racor than try to change a clogged secondary when I'm away from the dock.
