I am installing 2 dolphin poles 20 feet out from my new dock. my boat is a 36 ft sportfish. how far apart woud you recomend putting them? they will only be used to tie the boat up durring hurricanes as the dock is in a very protected canal.

why out so far? maybe 15' and a little longer than the length of the boat. If you can do it use triple poles for the tie offs strapped together with 3/8 ss cable. I had that set up and went thru Frances jenne and wilma. we had 140mph with frances and I broke several lines. If I hadnt been on the boat I would have lost it. I'm up in vero and we realy took a beating. I lost my house and lived on the boat for 6 months. My dock was destroyed also. I now have a cluster of 6 poles each for the tie offs and triples at the docl where my bow and stern lines tie.Use 3 strand line the braided stuff broke like snapping rubberbands
