1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
67' COCKPIT MY (1987 - 1995)
At anchor for the weekend recently I was reminded of the importance of functioning smoke detectors. A very minor electrical issue that triggered a smoke detector alarm was able to be easily remedied rather than escalating to something more…impactful. We had 11 people aboard most of them under 17 years old. I’m thankful that we had working smoke detectors, plenty of them, and kids who know to come outside to tell dad when “something is beeping inside.” So it’s a good reminder for the start of the season in the northern climes to check the quantity of smoke detectors, replace the batteries and confirm the locations (and carbon monoxide detectors!!) in your fancy Hatterasses. It could save one or more lives and boats!!

I updated all my detectors with ones that communicate with each other wireless. If one goes off, they all go off. Another item we keep in each stateroom is a fire blanket purchased from Amazon. They hang on the back of each door so they are readily available. And don't forget to check your fire extinguishers.

mind sharing the info? this sound like a very good idea.

The brand detectors that I chose are X-Sense purchased thru Amazon. I used the smoke/carbon monoxide detectors in the staterooms and smoke detectors in the salon and galley. There are several fire blanket options also. I chose the FalconTac brand that is packed in a stain-resistant pouch that has heavy-duty grommets for wall hanging and also had heat resistant gloves included. Each stateroom also has a fire extinguisher hanging and easily accessible. This is especially important for our mid stateroom on our 53MY as the the windows are so small. These safety items/escape routes are always discussed with overnight guests. We witnessed a boat fire last summer in our marina and it really made us think about being prepared. The owners escaped safely, but it did happen really fast.
