  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
36' CONVERTIBLE-Series I (1969 -1977)
I use an "environmentally" safe degreaser, like White Lightning. Spray it on and use an old paint brush to work it in. Then I use a garden sprayer with water to rinse it off. I use a shop vac to pick up the dirty water. Some areas need to be done more than once, but it is easy to control.

I know we've all seen the informercials but has anyone ever used one of these for cleaning up in the engine room. I want to touch up the engines and was hoping to use something low pressure like this to help me do it. I found this unit at Target just don't want to waste 100.00 bucks if they are junk...

My wife buys every gimick that comes down the pike. She bought one used it once and its been in the closet ever since. I think Ill take it down the boat and see what happens. Will report back.

I bought one from Wagner, Ive used it to clean in the engine room, to remove stains on soft goods to decent effect.

I wouldnt call it a magic cure all but steam definitely helps.

I have a Shark steamer. Works great for cleaning tight spots, particularly in the bilges and ER. Don't know anything about this seller but here is a link to one on Ebay. Price seems good. I paid around $40-$50 for mine 5-6 years ago.

I bought a shark about 5-6 years ago after hearing all the rave reviews. I was not impressed. Worked ok on fresh, wet oil, but the old black grease- not so much.

I bought a shark and used it a couple of times to clean my aircraft engine and then on to the DD's. Like a previous poster it does pretty good in tight spots but I would have to spend days on each engine with it do clean the whole engine. Previous poster with white lightening is the way to do it as that is what I ended up doing. Already had it so I am keeping it for those tight spots.
